Don’t Bury Your Head

After a long, overwhelming week with little sleep and numerous crises, I went to service on Sunday and was blessed with this song, written by one of the musicians and his wife.  You have to hear it to fully appreciate it, but the lyrics are great by themselves.

Don’t Bury Your Head

Copyright Trevor & Bonnie McMaken (2006)

Written for the Second Sunday of Advent, 2006

Hands of the clock pressing forward, waiting expectantly

For the promised arrival to see the journey complete

But what shall we do while we’re waiting to what duties should we attend

Some lost all they were given while others doubled to ten

So don’t bury your head in the ground

Don’t bury your head in the ground

The harvest is here

There’s fruit left to bear

And Jesus is soon coming down

So don’t bury your head in the ground

Or you won’t see him come

Hands of the clock pressing forward but you just twiddle your thumbs

The forgotten the hungry the jaded you leave them on their own until he

comes

But in his right hand is forgiveness and mercy for those who repent

It is his will that all know him so dig up the treasure he sent

Don’t you know I baptize with water

But there will come one greater than I

Baptizing with holy fire
